Soy Is the Environmental and Economic Choice
While there is increasing body of evidence that paraffin candles are a hazard for you and your family’s health, soy candles provide a quality option that is not only a healthier choice, but also a more financially and environmentally conscientious decision. Soybeans are a 100% biodegradable renewable resource. The use of soybean oil for the production of both food and non-food products is an environmentally sound decision.
- Paraffin is a petrochemical produced from oil which increases the consumption of foreign oil supplies. By purchasing soy candles, you’re taking a stand in promoting the economic health of the American soybean farmer. Increased popularity of non-food based uses for soy has contributed to a substantial improvement in the economies of soy-producing areas in the U.S.—including much of the Midwest like Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa.
- It takes about 60 pounds of soybeans to produce 11 pounds of soy wax. The soy candle industry potentially could use up to one-fourth of the nation’s soybean crop, making it an excellent market for farmers.
But personal health and environmental sustainability aren’t the only reasons why people world wide are switching to soy candles. Another selling point is the value.
- Because soy wax has a lower melting point than the paraffin wax it burns cleanly and completely. This means that soy candles burn cooler and 30 to 50% longer than traditional candles. Cooler burning translates into quicker scent dispersion, called “scent throw” as well as longer burning time. This means per burning hour, quality soy candles provide good value and are a cost effective choice.
- Soy wax is completely water-soluble which makes them much easier to care for. If a soy candle were to spill the liquid wax onto furniture or carpets, it doesn’t need to be scraped off with a knife like paraffin does. All you need to clean up the mess soap and hot water. Our beautiful jars are easily re-cyclable and perfect for holding other non-food items. Once they have burned completely, it small amount that remains in the jar can be easily popped loose with a bit of pressure from your fingers. Then just clean them easily with soap and water. No scraping forever.
Purchasing soy candles just makes sense. By making the change to soy candles, you’re making a responsible commitment to your environment, the economy (including your wallet!) and most importantly, your health.
